This means cleaning your coffee machine’s filter, carafe, etc. You can use a mild detergent to clean your machine’s components and make sure you clean the filter basket to avoid the growth of any bacteria.
Once you have cleaned the main components, take a wet cloth and wipe the outer exterior of the machine to remove all coffee stains.
Thermal Carafes (BTX Models)
You would need to take special consideration when cleaning the thermal carafe because Bunn BTX model comes with a carafe that can be detached by rotating counter-clockwise. You can disassemble the carafe and remove the FlavorGard to clean as well. You can both use a dishwasher to clean the carafe components or run a brew cycle with soapy water and then rinse it with a clean water cycle to clean the carafe.
Descaling and Deliming your machine
If you use hard water for your coffee machine, then there would be a lot of mineral buildup inside the machine which you would need to clean to ensure that the machine works properly. You would need to perform this process once in every 2-3 months to keep it free of the deposits. For this, you will first need to drain all the water from the unit.
To remove the water from the machine, you need to lift off the top lid and then remove the white rocker valve arm by lifting it up. Now, turn your unit upside down over a sink and let it stay in this position for a couple of minutes. Now that your reservoir is empty, clean it with the help of a soft rag and water. Now, before you start the process of descaling, you need to clear the residue and debris from your machine with the help of the deliming tool.
So, remove the spray head with your hands and then take your deliming tool and insert it into the spray head tubing, and slide it in and out for a few times until all the buildup has been properly removed. Now, clean your spray head with the help of warm soapy water and a dish rag and if the buildup remains, start the descaling method.
For descaling your Bunn coffee maker, you would need a solution of vinegar and water and run a normal brew cycle. Throw away the dirty water and repeat this process again. Then finally, rinse the machine with a brew cycle of clean water.
